This is the first entry in our Social Media Question and Answer Series; designed to help you successfully navigate the ever-expanding digital marketing world.
What is the best way to take advantage of social networking sites?
- Personalize the information you are sharing to your customers. Social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter were developed as a way for people to stay connected with “friends,” so don’t bombard your “friends” with loads of ads- share news and tips that will interest/ help them. You can intersperse a few financial incentives (aka- ads), just don’t stuff so it looks like spam.
- Update– the beauty of social networking is its timeliness. With the increased popularity of these sites, people have become increasingly accustomed to getting their information NOW. So, don’t make your “friends” and “followers” wait, share as much as you can (or as much as you are comfortable doing) about what’s going on.
- Network– Networking has long been the touted secret to success in business. It’s the same with social media, as the name suggests, “social networking” sites create a sense of community. So, don’t be afraid to get out there- make new friends, join new groups, and follow interesting people. Share what you know- they might decide to patronize your business because of it.
